First Place Fitness

As COVID-19 restrictions begin to lift, city-wide mask mandates expire, and our favorite downtown spots are once again thriving, life is starting to look a little less “new normal” and a little more like we remembered. Whether you find yourself downtown grabbing a cup of coffee with a friend, going back to work at the office, or just simply getting out for a little physical activity, there is no denying Price Family Properties is buzzing once again! We sat down with Michael Maras, personal trainer, and manager of First Place Fitness, to discuss how you can establish a safe and healthy routine as our city reopens.

First Place Fitness offers affordable, individual training sessions that help your journey back to the gym go smoothly and safely. Tucked into the lower level of First Place Tower, First Place Fitness is a convenient option for those living and working downtown to get back into a healthy post-covid routine. The 8,000-square-foot facility was recently remodeled with full-service locker rooms, personal training spaces, weight sets, and fitness machines. While anyone working or living in a Price Family Property building will receive a discounted membership, the space is open to anyone who’d like to join. First Place Fitness offers flexible options with month-to-month memberships and personal training services, neither of which require an annual contract.

Maras highly recommends a personal trainer when you first join. “Trainers provide direction to those who don’t have an understanding of gym equipment or proper form.” Maras is equipped with more than 5 years of strength and conditioning experience working with and coaching clients and is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA –CSCS) and the National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM –CPT). Most recently, he worked with the University of Oklahoma Football Strength and Conditioning staff. When he isn’t helping clients at First Place Fitness, he trains at a non-profit devoted to training police, fire, and EMS employees called “Fit First Responders.” Needless to say, we trust his expertise!

Maras notes personal trainers continue to be a great asset, even if you’ve been working out for a while. “If you work out consistently, personal trainers can give members additional instruction to give you even better results.” Individual sessions start at $30/half hour and are custom designed by Maras for each member.

In an effort to ensure the best safety protocols, COVID precautions such as social distancing, disinfecting equipment after use, and limiting capacity are still being taken, and while masks are recommended, they are not required. In-person group classes, such as spin and yoga, are still on hold. Maras does make note that they are still offering virtual classes in their Studio Room with hundreds of different workout options. Boxing, spin, yoga, and HIIT training have all remained popular.

If you’re interested in learning more, you can schedule a tour by emailing First Place Fitness at fptgym@pfptulsa.com or visiting the gym during business hours. An added bonus? First Place Fitness offers a 1-week free guest pass to those wanting to try before they buy. See you at the gym soon!
